Abolition of an illegal possession of a weapon

During a search of a man's home, he was found in possession of an air pistol made by Browning, a well-known arms company, in a 4.5 mm caliber with an imprinted serial number on it.
In his defense, the suspect claimed that he was collecting weapons-like objects, mainly Airsoft tools, that did not meet the definition of "weapons" in the law. Against the suspect stood as evidence "an officer's certificate regarding the possession of a weapon" and his condition seemed to be lost, since an indictment was filed against him for possession of a weapon without a license!
After a technical investigation, it was found that this specific gun was indeed designed both for firing lead bullets, which have the ability to kill a person, but also for firing plastic bullets, which are not dangerous.

A report was submitted to the court on the dual-use capability of the object, with the defendant declaring that he was willing to give up the gun. This, together with the presentation of the rest of his "collection", led to the dismissal of all charges against him!

Note that no expert opinion was even required and the court contented itself with the examination report I prepared.
